AGARTALA, August 29 (TIWN): The surrendered militants of different outfit organizations threatened the government to blockade the National Highway 44 soon unless the government fulfill their demands. The demands that deserve special mention are- withdrawing all the pending cases against surrendered militants, providing shelters to surrendered militants under IAY scheme, rehabilitation to all 98 surrendered ultras and raising of rubber plantation for all the 98 returnees who have got patta under Forest Right’s Act.

One of the returnees said that a memorandum comprising four- point charter of demands has already been handed over to DM Milind K Ramteke for consideration. Assistant Secretary of Joint Action Committee, a common platform of surrendered militants Amrit Reang said, “We have joined the mainstream hoping to get rehabilitation package declared by the central government.

However, we have not yet received any assistance from the government even after spending a considerable years. Before surrender, it was promised to withdraw all cases against us but this has not been fulfilled yet”.

The number of surrendered militants in Dhalai district stands at more than 700 and most of them have not received rehabilitation package from the government. “If the government ignores and does not pay attention to our genuine demands, the surrendered militants will blockade the national highway very soon”, said Amrit Reang.
