Tripura Assembly Election : Polling personnel left for Poll-stations, Security blanket across state

AGARTALA, Feb 17 (TIWN): As the crucial Assembly Election is tomorrow, all the polling personnel have left for their polling stations today. Total 297 candidates, including 20 women, are in the fray for the 18 February Tripura Assembly polls. All 25,79,060 electorates, including 12,67,785 females, are eligible to cast their votes on 18 February to elect a new 59-member Assembly. Over 30,000 civil officials would be engaged to conduct the single-phase Assembly elections. Since today morning, the polling officers are leaving for their destination amid tight securities throughout the state. Already section-144 had come under action since yesterday 4 PM according to Election Commission's guidelines. Strict prohibitions have been imposed upon the use of loud speaker, campaigning with flags, festoons, rallies or gatherings etc.

DGP A K Sukla has announced a toll free number 15103 for the common people via which they can register their complaints in case of any untoward incident during the poll hours. 

The helpline will remain active 24 X 7 to help the voters, which will be helpful also for police to maintain the law and order.

There will be 14 polling stations handling fully by women polling officials including the Group-D employees.

In a press conference yesterday, SP West Abhijit Saptarshi talking about the law and order issues said, "Since the morning already patrolling have been tightened across the booths. Police and administration are fully active to maintain the law and order during polling hours".

"Whatever activity will be done by police will be totally under Election Commission's guidelines. I appeal to everyone, not to believe in any kind of rumour. If there is an untoward incident police will definitely go and deal strictly", added SP.
