Deadline for Poll campaigning ends : Section 144 imposed since 4 PM, EC to take strict actions against violators regardless political identities

AGARTALA, Feb 16 (TIWN): Without halting the mainstream of life as much as possible, section-144 has come under action since 4 PM today according to Election Commission's guidelines. Across 8 Districts of Tripura, SPs and District Magistrates held press conferences with official announcements of implementing Section-144 and the ending of poll campaigning for the Assembly Election-2018, along with imposing prohibitions on the use of loud speaker, campaigning with flags, festoons, rallies or gatherings etc. DGP A K Sukla has announced a toll free number 15103 for the common people via which they can register their complaints in case of any untoward incident during the poll hours. The helpline will remain active 24 X 7 to help the voters, which will be helpful also for police to maintain the law and order.

In a separate press conference DM West Milind Ramteke said, "No action will be taken against any duty bound citizen but any violator of EC's guideline, which can provoke tension during polling, including political party leaders can't be spared". 

"Our aim is not to harass the common men and thus Section 144 will not be imposed everywhere so that the race of everyday life doesn't face any affect", said DM. 

"There will be no restriction upon the day to day activities including cinema halls, education sectors and markets", DM said.

However door to door campaigning comprising of four persons have been allowed, but the leaders can't break the strict guidelines given by the EC.

There will be 14 polling stations handling fully by women polling officials including the Group-D employees.

SP West Abhijit Saptarshi talking about the law and order issues said, "Since the morning already patrolling have been tightened across the booths. Police and administration are fully active to maintain the law and order during polling hours".

"Whatever activity will be done by police will be totally under Election Commission's guidelines. I appeal to everyone, not to believe in any kind of rumour. If there is an untoward incident police will definitely go and deal strictly", added SP.
