AGARTALA, Jan 26 (TIWN): On Republic Day, the Left organizations have observed "Save Constitution Day" in Tripura. While addressing on that occasion, former CM Manik Sarkar has taken a dig at the Election Commission of India accusing it for helping BJP to win the elections.
"Where is the electoral rights today ? The elected members are stopped to enter their own area. They are attacked and in election, the people are unable to cast their rights", said Sarkar.
"Opposition leaders are not allowed to go for rally but in the same place, the CM is holding rally. What type of system is that ? Candidates are not allowed to submit nminations and if someone is still submitting, then they are attacked. Counting process is violated. What happened in Lok Sabha election ? What is the role of Election Commission ? It is witnessed that Election Commission is acting selectively, helping to supress opposition rights", he added.
This statement came after West Tripura MP in state won by open rigging, violence amid police and Election Commission's paralyzed roles. Tripura since 2018 did not witness a single free and fair election and 95% nominations were by force either snatched or bound the candidates to give up election in local body poll.
