AGARTALA, Nov 16 (TIWN): Justice Akil Abdulhamid Kureshi was sworn in as Tripura High Court Chief Justice today.
Governor Ramesh Bais has administered the oath at the Raj Bhawan. On yesterday, Justice Akil Abdulhamid Kureshi had arrived in Tripura.
On September 5, the Supreme Court collegium had recommended his elevation as the Chief Justice of Tripura High Court, modifying the earlier proposal made on May 10 to appoint him as the Chief Justice of Madhya Pradesh.
The reasons for this modification were not cited in the Collegium resolution, which merely said that the decision was taken on the basis of two communications received from the Centre and accompanying material.
After former CJ of Tripura High Court Sanjay Karole left the state, senior Judge Subashish Talapatra was appointed as the acting Chief Justice of the High Court till the time of oath-taking by the new Chief Justice.
