AGARTALA, Oct 6 (TIWN): Tripura CPI-M State Secretary Bijan Dhar on Friday in a press conference said, “Only the killers of Santanu and those who helped in the murder are demanding CBI investigation in Santnau murder case”. “They are also not allowing police to arrest the culprits”, said Dhar. Bijan Dhar’s remarks raise 2 questions here : 1) If CPI-M has already identified who are the killers, why the Govt is not arresting them ? Second question is 2) Except CPI-M, oppositions as IPFT, BJP as well as 90 % journalists of Tripura have demanded CBI probe in Santanu murder case as GMP (CPI-M's tribal wing) was also allegedly involved in Santanu murder case. So, is Bijan Dhar trying to say, ‘Journalists were also involved in Santnau’s murder at Mandai ?’

However, the misuse of power by various state govts in the federal structure led the Left Front Govt too to stop the internet for long 5 days in Tripura and 2 times in last 15 days the internet was off across the state. The power-occupied ruling party CPI-M and its tribal wing GMP as well as trade union CITU even though was in clash with IPFT but before investigation the party has announced that CPI-M’s tribal wing GMP was not involved in that clash but only IPFT has done all these. Not only this, in today’s press conference CPI-M State Secretary indirectly accused the journalists of the state for murdering Santanu just because they have demanded CBI probe, but CPI-M yet to answer why it doesn’t want CBI investigation in Santnau murder case. 

On Sep-20, a brutal attack had killed Tripura young journalist Santanu Bhowmik. Resident of Jirania, the young journalist was associated with various electronic media who has been killed while covering IPFT and CPI-M clash at Mandai.

The barbaric murder has taken place on Wednesday afternoon when after getting informed about an ongoing tension on that hilly zone, Santanu rushed to Mandai to cover the incident. But, while covering the event suddenly an attack was held upon him with sharp weapons (Da) and continuously the attackers were injuring him. However, CPI-M has claimed the murderers were none other than but IPFT activists.

Till day Tripura Police has arrested only 3 persons in Santanu murder case, whereas his murder took place before hundreds of people during Section-144 which had been implemented since Sep-19. But no police official was also suspended in that case.   Question yet remained, why not a single GMP activist was booked by state police ?
