TIWN July 19, 2017
AGARTALA, July 19 (TIWN): Congress agitators infront of Congress Bhawan found inhuman, when they locked a rickshaw, shouting against him and 2 passengers on it with few big bags were shivering out of fear. However, police immediately controlled the situation and asked the Congress youth not to create any unrest over there, as already they just burnt tires infront of Congress Bhawan. The Airport goers were the worst sufferers, helped by police to reach Airport via police vehicle. From Nagerjala to Melarmath no rickshaw was seen, whereas at Jail road to Math Chowmuhani towards Chandrapur the situation was little better for them. Talking to Nagerjala auto drivers, they said they are likely to start business from 3 PM, whereas private vehicles were moving across the city. Surprisingly, the Central Govt offices as BSNL, banks all remained closed. This strike was fully forced by CPI-M, as not even 50 Congress members were arrested.
TIWN visited BSNL main office but the security guard said that nobody came in that office today. State Bank’s main office at Melarmath also remained same. Private sectors, trading zones’ closing were accepted but the reason behind Central Govt Offices closing directly links the ruling CPI-M’s bandh-supporting attitude.
2 teams were arrested all together of Congress. One team held protest in front of Secretariat led by MLA Birjit Sinha, whereas another group led by Gopal Roy was arrested from City Centre area.
But funniest part was that although a huge police was deployed, but the Congress supporters number was less than media persons present there. How then this strike was a success ?
Amidst fears the daily workers, rickshaw drivers were doing their duties to save their 2 times meal.
