AGARTALA, June 7 (TIWN): ABVP placed a deputation to Institute of Advanced Studies (IASE) Principal seeking some clarifications.

In the Deputation ABVP wrote : “With reference to the notification about the shortlisted candidates for admission to 2 years B.ed Course 2017,Published on the official  Website of the Institute of the advanced studies in Education )I.A.S.;E)Kunjaban on Agartala 3/6/17 the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad of Agartala on behalf of the students of Tripura and outside participating on the ongoing admission process would like  to draw your attention to some serious  problems, doubts and confusion that the present selection process of the institute has given birth to the student community the common public and the ABVP feel the doubts have their origin in the selection process of the institute which seriously lack transparency. Hence the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad Agartala seeks to make the following observations about the selection process and demands valid clarification and appropriate action against the same.

1.First of all the notification of the shortlisted  candidates for admission to 2,Years B.ed course 2017 published on the  website of the institute says’ certain numbers of applicants’ have been shortlisted for the further process of admission to the B.ede programme. The notification does not make it clear on what basis the candidates have been selected. It is needless to say that the institute must have selected the candidates on the basic of merit. Now the question automatically arises is-the notification published now where displays the  marks obtained by respective candidates in the screening process.

2.If the candidates have been shortlisted on the basis of merit there must have been some screening process to mark the candidates in the basis of their merit their academic qualification from Madhyamik onwards. This is we do not doubt.

What surprises us and what we doubt is if there is some marking system of preparation for merit .Why the marks scored by the candidates have not been displayed against their name on the list. This has caused problems and doubts among the candidates . Now if the candidate doe snot finally get through this candidate shall have no clue as to by what percentage OF MARKS He/She will short of since no marks have been displayed at all.

If the list have been prepared an d displayed in order of merit instead of alphabetical order there would have been less confusion. The ABVP seeks clarification from the authority about the rational behind separate the candidates list in alphabetical orders.

4. The number of students (482 )selected for verification of documents as displayed in the notification, Suggests  that the institute must have maintained certain ratio-criteria i.e what number of candidates should be called for verification of documents against each seat available. And it is also natural to note that the institute must have followed some reservation policy regarding admission of students of various castes/ categories into its course. Now the surprising thing is the list of the shortlisted candidates does not show category- wise list of names , rather all names have been clubbed together, and that too, in alphabetical order. There must have been a limited number of seats allocated for different categories of candidates, and what possible problem the authority might have had to face had the list been displayed category- wise! A common doubt that the present list has caused is even if the name of an ST or SC candidate appears at 2 or 3, the concerned candidate shall still not be sure if she/he would finally get the admission since this is a clubbe3d list made in alphabetical order.

To sum up, the ABVP would like to know, even if the present list of shortlisted candidates is a preliminary list why there has not been any marks displayed against the names of the students. If there is no marks displayed the claims of the institute for consideration of the merit in selection of eligible candidates for admission in B.ED are automatically invalid. This raise serious questions regarding transparency of the selection process and the functioning of the institute. Hence the ABVP demands immediate cancellation a republication / modification of the list of students along wiyh marks as it is done in all admission process in the state and outside. Needless to say, student list for admission even in degree colleges also carries maid scored by respective candidates. Why has it not been here?

Why have the names of the candidates of different categories been clubbed together, instead of displaying the category-wise that would have been less confusing?

We hope you would immediately cancel the publishes list of shortlisted candidates and republish it with  against each name. This shall ensure admission of meritorious and deserving candidates and put  an end the serious doubts about the transparency of the selection of the selection process......."

However, the Principal said nothing clearly to the agitators after the deputation was placed.
