Triple murder: Sushil convicted, approver Niyati acquitted

Agartala, July 14 (TIWN): Following a long trial, the Additional District and Sessions Court today convicted the editor-cum-owner of Dainik Ganadoot newspaper- Sushil Chowdhury into triple murder case under section 120 (B)/ 109/34, 201/120 (B),109, 302/111/113 and 201 of Indian Penal Code (IPC). The court is scheduled to announce the verdict on July 17. The approver of the case Niyati Ghosh was acquitted by the court.

Amid tight security, a vast number of people have gathered in the court premises to witness the judgement. Later, the Additional District and Sessions Judge- Kripankar Chakraborty started announcing the judgement by 1.00 pm, this afternoon. First he declared that the approver Niyati Ghosh was not involved into the triple murder case. For that the court discharged her from the case. Of late, the accused Sushil was declared as convict by the court following a quote Tagore’s poem.

Interestingly, someone from the gathering allegedly slapped Sushil Chowdhury amidst tight security while he was taken out from the court after the conviction.

However, the family members of the convicted Sushil were broken into tears after the announcement of conviction and they allegedly reacted as unsatisfied with the justice.

A section of the intellectual cell claimed that police have done the investigation very actively and as a result the accused is being convicted.

The court will pronounce the final verdict of triple murder case on July 17. According to the sections of conviction, the court may be sentenced life term imprisonment to Sushil, an official source confirmed today.

In a shocking incident, three non-journalist employees of Dainik Ganadoot newspaper Ranjit Chowdhury (Manager), Sujit Bhattacharjee (Proof-reader) and Balaram Ghosh (Driver) were murdered in a broad daylight on May 19, last year.

The Special Public Prosecutor Dilip Sarkar, DC Kabir and advocate Niladri Mukherjee moved the case in favour of the government.
