Panchayat poll: Political parties start full-fledged campaign

Agartala, July 4 (TIWN): With the Panchayat poll drawing nearby, election campaign gained ground in 34 Panchayats under Salema and Durga Chowmuhani block of Kamalpur. Political parties are hectic with organizing door to door campaign.

Three-tier Panchayat poll is scheduled to be held on July 15. The political parties are not ready to waste their time. Hence, both right and left party is conducting door to door campaign and assuring to work for the people after their victory in the ensuing election. Focusing on development and maintaining law and order, the CPI (M) contenders of Durga Chowmuhani block are appealing votes. On the other hand, highlighting the issues of drinking water scarcity, deplorable roads, power problems and job issues of Left Front, Congress is asking for votes.

PCC member of Surama constituency cum Congress leader Sukharanjan Das said, “CPI (M) has raised problems regarding candidature, but yet, Congress was able to place contenders in Salema and Durga Chowmuhani block. I am optimistic of the victory of Congress against Left Front’s job issue, nepotism and corruption”. Besides, the local CPI (M) leader of Bilashcherra Panchayat Safik Mia claimed that CPI (M) will get hold of every Gaon Sabha on the basis of development, peace and discipline. 

Furthermore, the Panchayat poll campaign organized by different political parties has started gaining ground in Halahali Panchayat at Kamalpur. Though the Left front party won the poll in several seats without any contest, the opposition party also geared up their poll campaign in all the Panchayat Samities and Zilla Parishads of Halahali Panchayat. Halahali Panchayat was one of the strongholds of the Congress party since the past four years. But the CPI (M) came to the power in this Panchayat for the last one year. Locals said that the 1:1 contest would be held between CPI (M) and Congress in this Panchayat while BJP staged candidates in two seats of the Panchayat.

On the other hand, BJP seems to make its field clear. It seems the members of various other parties like CPI (M) and the Congress are joining the BJP. The BJP state president Sudhindra Dasgupta has travelled to various parts of the state campaigning for the BJP leadership throughout the state. During his travel he met with the BJP leadership in those areas and confirmed the party status. At a party meet held at Rajnagar, 30 CPI (M) voters joined the BJP along with 22 others from the Congress. Another meet was organized in the same day at Hrishyamukh where various steps for a successful poll were discussed by the leadership among the supporters.
