AGARTALA, July 4 (TIWN) A five-member delegation of the Tripura Pradesh Congress on Friday met State Election Commissioner Yatendra Kumar and sought Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) for poll duty in the coming three-tier Panchayat election.

The delegation led by Opposition leader Sudip Roy Barman comprised of MLA Gopal Chandra Roy, MLA Jiten Sarkar, Balai Goswami and PCC spokesperson Prabir Chakraborty.
The Congress leaders sought that para-military forces should be deployed in all polling booths to be used in the poll process scheduled on July 15. The party reiterated that the demand was unanimously voiced in all party meetings where the Commission had assured the same.
The delegation further demanded constant police patrolling in all villages immediately after the end of active campaign. They alleged that the cadres of the party in power enters various households in bulk numbers and either lure or threaten voters to cast votes in favour of the ruling CPI (M) and demanded strict maintenance of law and order and the election code of conduct before, during and after the election process.
Congress today said that the ruling alliance resorted to widespread terror tactics across the state, with multiple instances of threats to party publicity material including flags and baners.
The party appealed for steady videography in all polling stations and counting halls to check any scope of wrongdoings, counting supervisors and assistants from any other blocks to prevent false identity cases, incidents of atrocities and toretures upon counting agents, strict maintenance of EDV and provisions of UPS in counting halls.
The Resident Commissioner of Tripura Bhawan, New Delhi, had a meeting with the Joint Secretary of MHA on July 03. Sources inside the Home Department said that the Joint Secretary was almost convinced with the demand to release at least 17 training companies of the Border Security Forces (BSF) for election duty in the state.
The State Election Commission earlier sought 40 companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) for poll duty following demands from most political parties for central forces in election duty. After the MHA nipped the issue in the bud, the Commission sought release of 17 training BSF companies stationed in Tripura for Panchayat election duty.
