AGARTALA, Oct 8 (TIWN): Dhakai Jamdani, one of Bangladesh's finest muslin textiles, is set to be registered this month as the country's first Geographical Indication (GI) product, but Tripura although had potentiality to utilize its location by Bangladeshi garment industrialists investment, but due to the silence of the govt. Tripura has lost that opportunity. Bangladesh garment industrialists recently have shown interest to make a garment village in Tripura, after it launched many successive drives across Bangladesh. It was said by Bangladesh Asst High Commissioner in a press meet, but due to the lack of interest garment village died in dream. Bangladesh garment industrialists wanted to make a garment village but due to Tripura govt’s lack of interest & aim for Industry-less state such business set up never had been possible in state. From Tripura Govt. till day atleast 80 various companies had bought land to set Industry there, among which already 14 companies ran off, 33 are working and rest of the others couldn’t set up any industry in Tripura due to the anti-industrialist mentality of the Communists.

On th other hand, Bangladesh Senior Secretary of the Industries Ministry M. Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan made the disclosure while addressing the 56th annual meeting of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in Geneva on Tuesday, according to a message received here on Thursday.

Mosharraf, who led a two-member Bangladeshi delegation to the WIPO meeting, said Bangladesh in association with the WIPO has already implemented the Industrial Property Rights project with a view to preserving, developing and registering intellectual property.

The historic production of Jamdani was patronised by imperial warrants of the Mughal emperors. The term Jamdani is Persian deriving from 'Jam', meaning flower, and 'Dani', a vase or a container, named after decorative floral patterns found on Dhakai textile.

In this situation, Tripura facing a massive loss, as it has failed to utilize garment factories potentiality.
