AGARTALA, Oct 7 (TIWN): Tripura's long awaited dream of passenger train service between Agartala and Kolkata to begin its maiden journey on Saturday, fulfilling a decade long demand of people of Tripura. Security has been tighten to ensure a successful journey of Kolkata-Agartala express train on the day of Saptami. Reportedly, the workers on the puja days also working with full enthusiasm as this will make another history on Tripura’s soil. The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) would operate the Kanchanjunga Express between Agartala and Sealdah (Kolkata) via Silchar and Guwahati in Assam twice a week. Kanchanjunga Express would leave from Agartala for Sealdah via Guwahati and Silchar on Tuesdays and Saturdays while it would depart from Sealdah for Agartala on Sundays and Thursdays. However, BJP wanted that any of their Union Minister would come to state to make it a historical day, but political propagandas were finally cancelled when Modi declares, ‘lets people of Tripura receive a puja gift from Govt of India’, said BJP state president Biplab Deb.

It will halt at around 35 important stations enroute including Silchar, Guwahati, New Bongaigaon, New Coochbehar, New Jalpaiguri, Malda Town, Bolpur Shantiniketan and New Alipurduar. The train will cover the 1,556 km journey in 38 hours.

The train which will begin its first ever journey on Saturday was a long demand from Tripura but under 23 year’s of Tripura CPI-M regime it never had been possible, but finally the Kolkata-Agartala & Agartala-Kolkata route has become smooth & less costly with the blessing of Modi Govt.

Within 2 months the 1st express train had come to Tripura, the second train also to begin its journey. On July 31st Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu had declared that Tripura to get its 2nd express train, and more trains in coming days. Now proving his words true BJP led Central Govt has brought the 2nd express train finally on Tripura’s soil.

Presently tight securities are maintaining at various railway stations.
