AGARTALA, July 2 (TIWN): Tripura seeing steep increase in Vegetable Prices, as continuous raining has brought huge losses to the market.

Reportedly, early arrival of monsoon has resulted in a steep rise in vegetable prices in the state.

Currently, the vegetable is being sold at Rs. 60 per kg in the market but retailers could be seen selling the vegetable at `100 per kg in various parts of the state.

Tomatoes are price between `25 and `30 in the market while retailers are selling the red vegetable for `80 per kg. The prices of onions have also soared. While it was being sold at `20 per kg just last month, it now fetches the retailer close to `30 per kg.

Other vegetables like brinjal, cauliflower have not seen such steep hikes in prices.

While many vendors attributed the increase in prices to the delay in monsoon, some claim that the prices were hiked to compensate the loss of stock during transportation.

The increase in prices has hit the households, restaurant, market as well.

Moreover, prices of fruits are also reported as high in compared to the last year.
