Central Ministry is concerned towards the holistic development of entire NE regions, says Governor Tathagata Roy

AGARTALA, June 1 (TIWN): Addressing the valedictory function of the 2 day long NERCPA meet at Tripura Assembly on WednesdayGovernor Tathagata Roy said that central ministry is truly concerned towards the holistic development of entire North East regions.

Emphasizing on the growth of Tripura, he further said that numbers of central ministers are arriving in the state at regular interval and many more will come in the coming days which will further boost the development strategy and agenda of the landlocked state Tripura.

It is to be mentioned here that Lok Sabha speaker Sumitra Mahajan after inaugurating the parliamentary meet on Tuesday said that legislators in a parliamentary democracy represent the hopes and aspirations of the people. Therefore, they need to periodically introspect their roles and responsibilities.
Highlighting various issues of north-eastern states, she said that India cannot be developed without the development of the northeast region. 
The present central government is also attaching high importance for an all-round development of northeast India, Mahajan said.  She also said that Rs30, 000 crore has been earmarked for the northeastern region in the current (2016-17) Union budget and most of this would go for development of rail, road, waterways and telecom connectivity in the region. 

She also said the northeast region is blessed with favourable gender equation, rich natural resources and high percentage of literate young rural population. This youthful workforce can be harnessed as a national asset for nation-building.

Lok sabha speaker Sumitra Mahajan who arrived in the state on Monday, inaugurated the three day long 15th Annual conference of Northeast India's assembly speakers on Tuesday morning at 10.45AM at Tripura assembly in presence of CM Manik Sarkar.                       

Lok Sabha Deputy Speaker and senior All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam leader M Thambidurai, Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman P J Kurien, and Lok Sabha Secretary General Anoop Mishra also attended the inaugural ceremony.               

NERCPA is currently chaired by Meghalaya assembly Speaker Abu Taher Mondal.

The participants include speakers, deputy speakers of seven of the eight northeastern states excluding Assam, some legislators and parliamentarians, Tripura governor, chief minister and parliamentary affairs minister.                                        

The meeting hold discussions on parliamentary democracy and an interaction between the presiding officers of the Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha and legislative bodies.                      

This year two issues are selected for discussion, including to strengthening the NERCPA for further development NE Region states and the other one is soil erosion in NE India and its impact on the local populace and how political intervention could help resolve the issues.
