AGARTALA, May 23 (TIWN): This is not natural crisis of water, but manmade mistake which has lead to this crisis of water in entire Udaipur Subdivision. Only due to the negligence in maintaining the quality if the water pipes by DWS Udaipur subdivision is facing such crisis of water. With the onset of summer season, the major issue of water crisis has hit the state. It is to be mentioned here that people of same locality have been continuously complaining about water crisis in the area.A localite alleged that the people of the area have suffering from water crisis for past many days but the authority never took any initiative to solve the crisis of water. “Day after day we are drinking contaminated water from the small brooks and streams and there is chance of falling ill after drinking this contaminated water”, said a woman in the area. Poor maintenance of pipelines by DWS for supplying water to the city is largely to be blamed for the acute water crisis, she added. As a matter of fact, they have not been provided with sufficient drinking water during the last one week.

Although there are water tanks provided in the area but no water is provided in the area regularly, alleged a localite.

Even after several place the authority did not take any action to look into the matter.

It is to  be mentioned here that still today Women and girls of the mentioned districts and also other rural parts of the state Tripura bear the burden of walking miles at a time to gather water from streams and ponds - full of water-borne disease that is making them and their families sick. It is to be mentioned here that it is not the money that prevents state government focusing on supply of drinking water but lack of interest and infrastructure.

As there is immense crisis of drinking water the villagers are bound to drink water small brooks, and nearby polluted rivers, and streams, small fountains and other minor water bodies that consist of major pollutants which is highly responsible for water borne diseases.

The area is facing an acute crisis of water for last many days.  The people of this area walk a few kilometers in search of water under the scorching sun every day. Especially, the woman of this village carries 4 to 5 heavy pots over their head and fetches water from the wells and the brooks.

As water supply from the public water tap is unpredictable, the women are witnessed waiting in long queue for collecting water from the public water tap. Sometimes water pressure dips so low that they return with an empty bucket.
