AGARTALA, April 18 (TIWN): Tripura Pradesh Congress Chief Birajit Sinha pitched his voice high in favour of the 24 hours strike in the state on April 18 despite of existential crisis on congress demanding resignation of CM Manik Sarkar’s for his alleged involvement in the murder case of the then Health Minister Bimal Sinha. Demanding resignation of Manik Sarkar congress had called for 24 hours Tripura bandh on Monday. Talking to TIWN correspondent, PCC Chief Birajit Sinha said that over alleged involvement of CM Manik Sarkar’s direct or indirect involvement in the murder case of the then Health Minister Bimal Sinha in the state 18 years back, congress has called this strike demanding resignation of CM Manik Sarkar. He further said that a total of 2000 congress supporters will participate in the strike across the state. The party also held a massive rally in the state on Sunday pitching their voice high in the state for observing strike on April 18. Sinha further said that following the report of the Justice Yusuf Commission, which inquired into the assassination of Bimal Sinha, it is clear that Chief Minister Manik Sarkar was involved in his murder for political reasons," Congress has demand CBI inquiry into the assassination and immediate resignation of Sarkar from the post of Chief Minister. A 24-hour strike has been called by the party to press for the demand," he said.It is to be mentioned here that after a total of 18 years of duration, the Tripura Law minister Tapan Chakraborty placed the much controversial Yusuf commission report during Tripura budget session at Assembly.

The Yusuf commission being constituted by the state Left front government under the pressure of the opposition party had submitted the report on Bimal Sinha murder case during the year 2000, but the government had so far failed to publish the report.

It is to be mentioned here that the Yusuf Commission report revealed that the then state health minister Bimal Sinha had hand with the extremist and his relationship with the extremist has lead to his death.

Sinha was assassinated due to his close link with the banned insurgent outfit National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT), stated the report.

The report further stated that the relationship between the then minister Bimal Sinha and NLFT was very disappointing.  The report further criticised the role of police into the case. Police need to be given training in the state, claimed the report.
