KSS organized four-day long work shop on Skill Development of New Generation Kokborok Writers

AGARTALA, April 9 (TIWN): Kokborok Sahitya Samsad on Saturday organized a four-day long workshop on Skill Development of New Generation Kokborok Writers at MLA Hostel.

 The programme was organized with the collaboration of Tribal Research and Culture Institute.

The four-day long workshop is expected to continue till April 12.

It is to be mentioned here that Kokborok, the principal language of Tripura state, has gone through considerable development/evolution during the 20th century.

There have been many Royal Tripuri Princes and Government Officials and also common people who have contributed to the language's development in the last century. Tripura is a state in North East India.

According to history, at the time when Rajmala was written there has been very little written material in Kokborok and only since the end of the 19th century there has been some effort of writing the language in the written form.

However, from the second half of the 20th century only there has been a vigorous development process and activities for creating literature in Kokborok.

It is to be mentioned here that Tripura Government has recognized Kokborok as the State language in the year 1979. Since then notification under government department and others are being published along with the Bengali.

The Kokborok is a language of Borok people who are geographically known as Tripuris. It is one of the State Languages of Tripura notified on January 19, 1979. The TTAADC has declared the Kokborok as official language of the TTAADC on April 20, 1999.

The Kokborok language comprises of 17 Language Code among the 47 Language Code in India according to the 6th All India Educational Survey. There are also 99 no languages having no language code as well.

The programme was inaugurated by Rural Development Minister Naresh Chandra Jamatia in the presence of other members.
