AGARTALA, April 8 (TIWN) : Although the foundation stone of hostel for the Trainees of Bamboo and Cane Development Institute, has been laid at Lichubagan, Agartala, but now question remains about the possibilities of the future of Bamboo plantation here in Tripura. Reportedly, the Union Minister of state for Textiles (Independent charge) , Santosh Kumar Gangwar unveiled the inaugural Stone for Hostel of the Trainees of Bamboo and Cane Development Institute Lichubagan Agartala. Students are expected to be trained for upgrading bamboo plantation here in Tripura and to learn bamboo craftmanship. But the matter of worry is that the bamboo plantation business here in Tripura has become almost dying-era. So doubts remain----will the youths earn their livelihood by these training? However, it’s to be mentioned here that the Union Development of the North eastern Region (DoNER) Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh during his visit on October, 2015 said that “Tripura has all the potentialities to be called as the Bamboo state in the country”.Singh also urged the state Govt. to look after the matter as Tripura has a very bright opportunity to earn the distinction of becoming the "bamboo state" of India.

Now it’s to be seen how far the state govt. here takes attempts to preserve the bamboo plantation here in Tripura.
