Women walk several kilometres to fetch one bucket of water: Water scarcity massively hits Tripura

AGARTALA, March 8 (TIWN): Just when the celebration of the International Women Day being observed in state, several women residing in the interior parts of the State yet today walks several kilometres just to fetch one bucket of water.

It is to be mentioned here that International Women’s Day where celebrated to how respect and appreciation to the women in the world, till day several women in the interior parts of Tripura are craving for fresh drinking water sources in a nearby area.

Several demands to provide a water source in the nearby area but no initiatives have been taken. Several village committee elections have been conducted but after every election at the village committee level the promises turns fake.

There are sections of population which mostly depends on the contaminated water of the stream running through the area somewhere in the far-flung. They take bath, wash their cloths on the stream and unfortunately fetch the same stream water to quench their thrust.

Consumption of contaminated water results in increase in water borne disease in the area.

Despite of several demands to provide water sources in those areas till day no initiatives has been taken to solve the problem in the area.

Water is the basic need of every human being. Where a section of urban Tripura has been simply wasting the excess water, on the other hand women and children of the rural areas are mostly affected by the dearth of safe and clean drinking water.

Mostly, the children gets easily succumb to the water borne diseases resulting Malaria, diarrhea and other diseases.

It is to be mentioned here that areas of Killa block, Darjeeling bari, Thaelong and many others are massively hit with the acute scarcity of drinking water.  

Every time the authority claims to solve the problem of water scarcity in the area but till day no initiatives has been taken.

However, if immediate action is not taken solve the problem in the identified areas than people had to suffer from various waterborne diseases. Most of the families are dependent over the open stream water.
