AGARTALA, March 6 (TIWN): Only after state took the responsibility of the NH the road has crippled down miserably. IT can be said that in India it is only NH44 who is suffering the most with poor and pathetic condition. It is to be mentioned here that once the BBIN car rally representatives who came here in Tripura criticised the pathetic condition of NH44 over past many months. The representatives said that it’s very shocking that National Highway 44 – the only road connectivity that links mainland India with the eastern part of Meghalaya, Barak Valley in Assam, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura has for a long time now remained a harrowing experience for them. They have criticised the condition of the road but still than the Tripura government has not taken any initiative to take any action. While addressing every election campaign, Chief Minister Manik Sarkar's claims that the Tripura is developing faster than any other state but the poor condition of road mainly NH44 which plays an important role in developing a State speaks opposite. Prolonged deplorable condition of the road under the 22 years of Maniks regime is deeply questioned with the criticism of NH44.
The condition of National Highway has worsened after it was handed over to the State PWD by NHAI, which raised hopes among the commuters that their troubles would meet an end. But their hopes went to vein as the condition of the NH-44 is getting worse day by day. After taking over the charge of maintenance of NH-44 the PWD is not working up to the mark.
The poor condition of the NH44 has lead to endless sufferings for the people who travel through this road.
After the state PWD department took over the charge of maintenance of NH-44, the PWD has not work up to the mark for its maintenance. After the Ministry of Road Transport and Highway (MORTH) handed over development and maintenance of 104 km of the Assam Agartala National Highway (NH-44) to the PWD from Border Roads Organization (BRO) in July 16th, 2013, the condition of theNH-44 has worsen day-by-day due to negligence of PWD.
State Govt's apathy towards maintaining NH-44 in proper condition resulted in turning Tripura's lifeline NH-44 into a ditch in CM Manik Sarkar's so called 'golden era' and has turned to death trap and is left in pathetic condition raising the woe of the common people.
