AGARTALA, Jan 16 (TIWN): Despite of taking several strict initiatives, yet road accidents has become rampant in the state.

Allegation has been raised that lack of awareness among the common mass and mostly the lack of strict law or official negligence are some of the major reasons behind the increasing number of road accidents.

If the defensive and disciplined driving and following traffic and Motor Vehicle rules could have been followed during driving than the untoward incidents would not have occurred.

Besides, the roads and footpaths across the state are in a deplorable condition for prolonged days. Most footpaths in the city have shed their topping and pedestrians have to be extra cautious while encountering the bumpy skeletal trails now. The roads are no better either since the topping that were given less than a year ago have developed into potholes.

Besides, due to reckless driving and negligence in the traffic rules also lead to major road accidents.

However, the over loading of passengers in the vehicles getting misbalanced the vehicles are also reason to meet with road accidents.

It is to be mentioned here that six people died on the spot and reportedly above 20 people were injured in a road accident when a bus slipped into a pond on January 6 morning at Chottakhola area under PR Bari police station at Belonia sub division.

Reportedly, the accident occurred due to allegedly overload of passengers and the tyre of the bus broke down.

Besides, allegation has been raised that roads and footpaths across the state are in a deplorable condition for prolonged days.

According to some locals, the traffic rules must be strengthened and more officials must be deployed in the major parts of the roads. As there are drivers who break the traffic rules while they cross the traffic zone of the capital as there is no strict vigilance in the roads of the interior.

Though in the road safety weeks various awareness camps are being done to curb road accidents where the people are urged to avoid over taking and reckless driving but a section of drivers of the passenger vehicle are least bothered.
