Agartala, Jan 15 (TIWN): Unfortunately in a democracy when every field requires a basic minimum qualification, dignity but petty politicians often forget maintaining decorum of their official posts. So,Bengal's petty politician and BJP leader Tathagata Roy is no exception.

In remarks that could stoke another controversy involving him, Tripura governor Tathagata Roy on Tuesday targeted Pakistani ghazal maestro Ghulam Ali, who is in Kolkata for a concert, saying no people on earth have suffered at Pakistan’s hands as much as Bengali Hindus.

“Paki singer GhulamAli in Kolkata. No ppl on earth hv sufferd at Paki hands as mch as Bengali Hindus. Bengalis forget, said Haraprasad Shastri(a noted Bengali linguist),” Roy tweeted.

“On 12 February 1950 all trains crossing the Meghna Bridge at Ashugonj (now Bangladesh) wr stopped, all Hindus stabbed and thrown into river,” Roy said in another tweet.

Organised by the West Bengal minority affairs and madrasah education department, whose minister in-charge is CM Mamata Banerjee, the singer performed at the inaugural function of a trade fair for small and medium enterprises.

The Kolkata concert is 75-year-old Ghulam Ali’s first show in India since the Shiv Sena forced the cancellation of his event in Mumbai in October last. Roy was chief of the BJP’s West Bengal unit before occupying the gubernatorial post and has faced criticism for his controversial tweets in the past which allegedly had communal overtones.

Roy earlier sparked a controversy when he claimed that those who attended 1993 Mumbai blasts convict Yakub Memon’s funeral were “are potential terrorists” and that intelligence agencies should keep a tab on them.

In Tripura's and public interest, Govt should check Tathagata Roy's obese mind and health so that no further undignified burps come from a high post like Governor.

Even opposition Congress, ruling CPI-M unitedly demanding Roy's ouster from Tripura.

However it may be a clever ploy on Roy's part to exit Governor's post to enter active politics in Bengal as he was kicked out by his bete-noire Rahul Sinha from Bengal BJP.
