AGARTALA, Jan 9 (TIWN): National Institute of Technology on Saturday organized Annual Alumni Meet -2016 at Nazrul Kalashetra.
During the inaugural programme, MP Jitendra Chowdhury, Padmashri professor Deepak B Pathak, Chairman BOG of NIT Agartala, Director of NIT Agartala Professor Gopal Mugeraya, Dean (AA&IA), NIT Agartala, Engineer R. K. Majumder President of NIT Agartala Alumni and others were present.
During the programme, Felicitation of Branch Toppers, Reception of Retired Teaching and Non-Teaching staff of NITA (TEC), Batch wise reception of Alumni (1970-2015), Felicitation of Silver Jubilee Alumni (Batch 1990) and outside members were also organized.
It is to ne mentioned here that National Institute of Technology, Agartala is a technology-oriented institute of higher education established by India's Ministry of Human Resource Development in Agartala, India. It was founded as Tripura Engineering College in 1965 and declared a National Institute of Technology (NIT) in 2006.
The college started with only three under graduate courses civil, electrical, and mechanical engineering and few faculties. Now it has enhanced the courses to eight undergraduate programmes, seven Post graduate programmes and six centres for Doctoral Research.
However, nearly 6,000 alumni of this Institute now spread all over the globe.
It is to be mentioned here that the Tripura Engineering College which has been declared NIT was initially affiliated with Calcutta University and had the same curriculum structure and examination system as Bengal Engineering College (currently IIEST Shibpur). Later, it got affiliated under Tripura University.
