AGARTALA, Jan 9 (TIWN): With pressure from the opposition in Tripura assembly on Friday, the Tripura police after getting green signal from Tripura’s CM Manik Sarkar arrested the rapist MLA Monaranjan Acharjee from his own residence on Saturday at Amarpur.

Talking to TIWN correspondent on Saturday, Gomoti district SP confirmed that accused MLA Manoranjan Acharjee was arrested from his own residence and police is now conducting interrogation with the accused MLA at the Birganj Police station.

It is to be mentioned here that Tripura Assembly on Friday witnessed uproarious scenes over the Opposition's demand for arrest of a former MLA of ruling CPI-M an alleged case of molestation. 

Almost after month of the scam came into limelight, the main accused former CPM MLA Manoranjan Acharjee is finally arrested on Saturday with green signal from Tripura’s CM Manik Sarkar. Demands have been raised from different sources to arrest the accused.

Amarpur police earlier have lodged a suo moto case against expelled CPI (M) MLA Manoranjan Acharjee with charges of molestation of a minor girl in his party office.

It is mention here that the gruesome incident took place on Nov 27 and intentionally the ruling party big heads hush up the matter and remain silent in the issue. 

Although the Mother of a five and half year old girl has submitted separate written complaints to Chief Minister Manik Sarkar and CPM party secretary Bijan Dhar before the election but the party remained silent over the issue. In the letter, the mother and her father alleged that MLA Manoranjan Acharjee had sexually abused her girl who used to visit him quite often.

It is worthy to mention here that police has lodged complaint against expelled MLA Manoranjan under section 354 of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and protection of children from sexual abuse act.

After months of the incident came into limelight, Tripura CM made all his efforts to save the accused MLA from the punishment of the law.  However, with pressure from the opposition Tripura’s CM Manik Sarkar gave green signal to police arrest him.

It is alleged that only to save him from the legal actions of law police was intentionally delaying the case in the name of so called investigation.

After months of the scam came into limelight, the main accused former CPM MLA Manoranjan Acharjee was roaming free and no action was     taken against him and finally the police finally arrested him.

However police is further investigating the case.
