AGARTALA, Jan 9 (TIWN): Stressing on the condition of the NH44, PWD chief commented that renovation of a road is a continuous process and the work is underway round the clock everywhere.

Talking to TIWN correspondent, PWD Chief Engineer said that the construction agency is carrying out renovation work at different spots of the road and it is a continuous process.

Numbers of labourers are engaged in the renovation work and the workers are also undertaking the work of carpeting at the required places.

Responding to the query of frequent report of poor condition of road, PWD chief commented that due to the continuous ply of heavy vehicles in the road the carpeting of the road gets erupted and leads to hurdles in NH44, which further exaggerates the traffic glitch and accidents in the road.

He further said that the workers are engaged round the clock to carry out the renovation work in the state. Agency is continuously carrying out the renovation work to avoid any traffic glitch on the NH44 as it is one of the lifelines of Tripura.

Later he also claimed that work will continue till the weather remains good as it becomes very problematic to carry out the renovation work during the rain.

It is to be mentioned here that The deplorable condition of National Highway 44 – the only road connectivity that links mainland India with the eastern part of Meghalaya, Barak Valley in Assam, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura – has for a long time now remained a harrowing experience for helpless commuters but it seems that the road will be renovated soon and there will smooth movement of vehicle in the street.

Allegation rose that the condition of National Highway has worsened after it was handed over to the State PWD by NHAI.

After the Ministry of Road Transport and Highway (MORTH) handed over development and maintenance of 104 km of the Assam Agartala National Highway (NH-44) to the PWD from Border Roads Organization (BRO) in July 16th, 2013, the condition of the NH-44 is allegedly getting worse day-by-day due to negligence of PWD.
