Tripura Assembly winter session: Opposition raises issue of rapist MLA Monaranjan Acharjee, CM Manik Sarkar reluctant to comment on fellow comrade, ruckus mars the first day

AGARTALA, Jan 8 (TIWN): The first day of the winter assembly session witnessed revolt as opposition raised the issue of arresting accused expelled MLA Monaranjan Acharjee for raping a minor girl.Opposition Congress tried to raise the issue of alleged molestation of a minor girl in the CPI (M) party office at Amarpur by former MLA Manoranjan Acharjee where the speaker of the Assembly Ramendra Chandra Debnath objected the issue and similarly CM Manik Sarkar was reluctant to give any comment regarding the issue. It is to be mentioned here that CPI (M) has already expelled Acharjee from the party after the allegation were raised against him.Opposition leader Sudip Roy Barman and other leaders of the opposition party protested in front of the speaker of the assembly Ramendra Chandra Debnath demanding CM Manik Sarkar to comment on the issue of the expelled MLA Manoranjan Acharjee.Demanding the arrest of the expelled MLA Manoranjan Acharjee in allegation of sexual abuse of a minor the state opposition raised the issue to CM Manik Sarkar.Reportedly, even after passage of several days, the Tripura police is yet to arrest the former CPI-M MLA Manoranjan Acharjee for his alleged involvement in a sexual abuse case of a minor girl and allegedly police is making intentional delay in the case.Police lodged complaint against expelled MLA Manoranjan under section 354 of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and protection of children from sexual abuse act, police is yet to arrest him.

However, Governor of Tripura Tathagata Roy kicked off the 9th session of the State Assembly on Friday at 11 a.m. at State Assembly House of Capital Complex.

As per the regulation, the first day of the session began with the speech of Governor Tathagata Roy.

The assembly session will continue for five days, except Saturday and Sunday from January 8 till January 14. It is expected that the assembly will table vote-on-account and place a new bill-‘Indian system of Medicine-2016.

The first day of the session witnessed serious revolt by the Monaranjan issue at the assembly.
