AGARTALA, Dec 25 (TIWN): Despite of regular drive and charging fine by the Traffic Department, some unruly auto drivers still continue to carry more passengers in the broad day light.

Talking to TIWN correspondent on Friday, Traffic SP Sriti Ranjan Das said that the traffic personnel are in regular check of the auto carrying more passengers and charges fine if they find any.

Besides, he also mentioned that despite of strict vigilance over the auto drivers carrying more passengers some auto drivers manages to escape from the eyes of the traffic personnel.

Meanwhile when asked about the extra fare taken by the auto drivers with an excuse that they do not have any change, Traffic SP said that we cannot directly charge any drivers but if any passengers complains against the driver than the Department can charge fine.

Stressing over the issue of carrying more passengers by the auto drivers, Traffic SP Sriti Ranjan Das said that more precautions will be taken so that the passengers so not face any harassment.

Despite of the Tripura High Court’s order to carry three passengers at a time, some unruly auto drivers still continues to carry more that passengers under the nose of the traffic police.

Reportedly, auto drivers carry five to six passengers after 8 pm at night and in the early morning hour. Besides, sometime the auto drivers carry four passengers in the bright day light.

Locals complained that despite of refusing the auto drivers to carry more than three passengers, the drivers forcefully carry.

They further mentioned that if the passengers oppose too much, the driers ask them to leave the auto.

It is to be mentioned here that despite of High Court’s order the unruly auto divers are carrying more passengers than the decided number. It has been mentioned in place of three passengers on the back of the auto, the unruly auto drivers are carrying six to seven passengers.

Yet after putting restrictions on the auto drivers here in Tripura for not carrying more than three passengers, the unruly auto rickshaw driver across the capital city has been found recently violating the rules and regulations of the High Court and the transport department keeps in their babugiri trend by carrying more than three passengers on auto.

On the other hand, the auto drivers also charges more fare with an excuse that they do not have any change.

The fare from Agartala to Motor stand is Rs. 7 but most of the auto drivers return Rs. 2 as a change for Rs. 10 that is for most of the passengers. Only counting number of passengers gets back the change of Rs. 3.

Yet after putting restrictions on the auto drivers here in Tripura for not carrying more than three passengers, the unruly auto rickshaw driver across the capital city has been found recently violating the rules and regulations of the High Court and the transport department keeps on carrying more than three passengers on auto.

The Transport department during the year 2014 putting a restriction on the auto rickshaw vehicles decided stringent measures would be taken as per motor vehicle act for other passenger carrying vehicles in violation of passenger limit of the respective vehicles. But till today the department has failed to bring a control over the worsen situation.
