AGARTALA, Dec 2 (TIWN): Keeping eye on the upcoming civic poll, the final testing of the electric voting machines to get complete on Wednesday.
The testing of the electronic voting machines has been underway at the Umakanta Academy building, in front of the political representatives of all the political parties.
After testing the EVMs are being sealed and will be taken to the respective polling stations on December 8.
It is to be mentioned here that the election to the 49-seat Agartala Municipal Corporation, and 13 municipal councils and six nagar panchayats would be held on December 9.
Besides, according to the sources reports, for the upcoming election in the municipal bodies Electronic Voting Machines would also be used to conduct the elections while old Bungo and Godrej type ballot boxes would be used for the by-polls to the gram panchayats and panchayat samities.
Altogether 537,968 voters, including 268,754 females, are eligible to cast their votes for the upcoming municipal elections.
The final photo voter lists for the ensuing Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC), 13 Municipal Councils and 6 Nagar Panchayats is announced by state election department.
To ensure greater transparency and avoid confusion in the minds of voters, the Election Commission has decided that electronic voting machines (EVMs) would henceforth display images of the contestants along with their names and party symbols.
However, the Preparation for the upcoming election which is scheduled to be held on December 9 is on the peak and as a part of administrative routine, altogether Electronic Voting Machines are being scrutinized by the officials for the smooth cast of votes during the civic polls. The counting will be conducted on December 12.
Reportedly, the polling persons are casting their votes in the ballot paper has begun from Wednesday and will continue till December 4.
Besides, on December 8 the polling personnel will be leaving for 49 AMC polling stations along with the election materials.
