AGARTALA, Dec 1 (TIWN): On the occasion of the Worlds AIDS Day, Tripura AIDS Control Society on Tuesday organized an awareness programme at Umakanta Academy premises.

The programme has been inaugurated by the Chief Secretary of the State Y.P Singh by lighting the inaugural lamp.

Mentioning the detail of the current year HIV cases, it has been informed that altogether 1647 cases has been recorded up to the month of September, 2015.

So far out of the total number of HIV cases, a total of 637 AIDS cases in Tripura have been detected. Detailing about HIV and AIDS cases it has been mentioned that till September 2015 a total of 1004 male, 579 female and 64 children below 12-year of age has been detected.

Besides, 366 male patients has been detected till September 2015, 245 female and 26 children below 12 –year of age has been detected.

According to the report, total death cases in the financial year 2014-15 was 30, in the financial year 2013-14 was 33 and 43 death cases in the financial year 2012-13.

Breaking up the total number of HIV positive patients in District Wise, it has been mentioned that West District has 480 patients, 174 at Khowai District, 125 at Sepahijala District.

Besides, 62 patients have been detected at South District, 139 at Gomati District, 366 at North District, 136 at Unokoti and 165 at Dhalai.

World AIDS Day is celebrated every year on December 1 since 1988. It is dedicated to raising awareness of the AIDS pandemic caused by the spread of HIV infection, and mourning those who have died of the disease.

Government and health officials, non-governmental organizations and individuals around the world observe the day, often with education on AIDS prevention and control.

According to the reports, the numbers of HIV positive patients are increasing by the passing days. During 2013-14, a total of 225 new cases reported to TSACS while it has gone up to 265 in the year 2014-15.

However, various other initiatives have been taken as a part of the World AIDS Day all across the State.
