KOLKATA / AGARTALA , Oct 8 (TIWN): The CBI on Wednesday arrested Manoranjana Sinh, estranged wife of former union minister and Congress leader Matang Sinh, and grilled cinestar-turned Trinamool Congress MP Tapas Paul in connection with the multi-crore-rupee Saradha and Rose Valley ponzi scams.Along with Manoranjana, CBI sleuths arrested Kolkata-based entrepreneur Santanu Ghosh in connection with the scam.Manoranjana and Ghosh were grilled by the CBI's Special Crime Branch in the satellite township of Salt Lake for hours before they were eventually arrested."Both the arrested people have been interrogated earlier but they not only failed to explain the facts but also allegedly concealed vital information and did not cooperate with the CBI," said a CBI officer."Their alleged involvement in criminal conspiracy with Saradha chief Sudipta Sen for personal gain of huge amounts running into crores of rupees by way of misappropriation of funds collected from innumerable poor investors and also cheating them have come during the ongoing investigation," the officer added. The CBI had arrested Assam's former Union Minister Matang Sinh in January for his alleged complicity in the scam. Earlier The High Court of Tripura instructed the Tripura State Government to form a full-fledged team to investigate all the matters related to Chit fund issues. The High Court Division bench headed by Chief Justice Deepak Gupta and U.B. Saha had passed the order. Immediately a special investigation team (SIT) was formed headed by Director General of Police and Chief Secretary.

Other than nabbing Rose Valley Tripura head Ashok Saha, CBI’s progress with Tripura Chit Fund scams are almost nil.

The CBI and the Enforcement Directorate had since 2014 been quizzing Manoranjana -- who along with many other high-profile names -- has been accused of complicity in the scam by Saradha group head and kingpin Sudipta Sen in his 2013 tell-all letter to the CBI.

Manoranjana, a former journalist, had allegedly sold her shares in an audio-visual channel to the Saradha Group.

She had also purportedly taken Sen to the lawyer-wife of a former union minister for settling a deal, Sen claimed in the letter.

Paul, who represents Krishnanagar Lok Sabha constituency in Nadia district, was quizzed about the Rose Valley group, as he was a former director in one of its firms.

In March, CBI sleuths, as part of a crackdown on Rose Valley, raided Paul's Kolkata residence.

Both Manoranjana and Ghosh will be presented before a city court on Thursday.

Earlier in Tripura, under High Court’s pressure, Tripura Govt was forced to form  Special Investigation Team (SIT) to hear depositors of the various Chit Fund companies. After trying heart and soul to keep an ice cover on the case, State Government getting order from the High Court at last forced to form a team to investigate the case in proper manner.
SIT team comprised of Senior inspectors namely Kamalendu Bhowmik, Samir Roy, Manik Debnath, Nityananda Sarkar , Surasen Tripura respectively.

It is also known that the division bench said that as it is not possible to investigate the whole matter fully by the CBI, so an alternative procedure should be adopted. Accordingly a special investigation team should be formed necessarily. This team will further investigate all the chit fund related matters. Earlier, High Court wanted to know that if every scam case should be handed over to the CBI, then what the role of State government will be in this regard?
In reply it was said that there is no experienced person in the police department who can investigate the matter properly. But the division bench is not satisfied with the answer and ordered for Special Investigation Team (SIT) to be formed immediately.

It is to be mentioned that on August 20 last a team of SIT (Special Investigation Team) head by Samir Roy went  Kolkata to investigate about  Rose Valley, that  have duped thousands of investors of the state. For last fourteen days they were staying at Kolkata without progressing an inch in investigation.
