Unruly IPFT to strengthen its demand for separate land, says party president

AGARTALA, August 25 (TIWN): With the aim to strengthen its demand for a separate land to achieve ‘Twipra-land’ with areas under tribal autonomous district council to protect the rights and identity of Tripura’s tribal population, The Indigenous Peoples Front of Tripura (IPFT), a tribal based party in Tripura is schedule to held a state convention meeting at Khumlung on 12 and 13 August, said party president Narendra Chandra Debbarma in a meeting at Press club on Tuesday.

Party president Narendra Chandra Debbarma also said that to press for their demand, the party is also scheduled to attend the regional convention in Guwahati on September 5 and 6 which are scheduled to be attend by the authorities of the all separate land demanders in north east including Bodoland, Gorkhaland.

He further added that the party is not pushing for any irrelevant or unconstitutional demand and the demand for the separate state is lawful. Pressing their demand for separate state, the party threatened for vigorous agitations at Jantar Mantar at Delhi in the midst of November to achieve ‘Twipra-land’ to protect the rights and identity of tribal.

Criticizing the left front government he further said that during the long years of Left Front Govt. rule the condition of the tribal communities became bad to worse. Debbarma in his address, attended by thousands of tribals, mainly youths, warned that the party would continue to strive for a separate state with areas of the tribal autonomous district council. He said, it’s important to protect state’s minority tribal’s and preserve identify” and added “all programmes would be peaceful.

Stressing on the issue where allegedly a violent group of youths belonging to IPFT roaming, disrupting public life with barbaric shouting, scaring people at capital of Tripura demanding a new state in a rally organized on Sunday he further said that after investigating about the incident at Bidurkarta Chowmuhani and Vivekananda stadium it is found that some Ruling CPI(M) party cadre are responsible behind this incident who had tried to create an unfriendly environment to disturb the smooth conduct of the rally.

However, Party president Narendra Chandra Debbarma along with other many political and social ramifications remained present in the program.
