AGARTALA, August 16 (TIWN): The State government is planning a major reshuffle in the police department ahead of urban bodies election including Agartala Municipal Corporation election. The election is schedule to held in December next.
Highly placed sources in the police department said that the government was serious about transferring senior officers as well as those in the rank of SPs..
The State government had prepared the list of officers to be transferred but it was put on hold due to TTAADC elections. As the election process has been completed, a decision on transfers will be taken at the earliest. Chief Minister Manik Sarkar will hold a meeting in this regard sooon, said the sources.
It is said that the names of Inspector General, DIG and SP rank officers figure in the list. The move is aimed at fine tuning the policing and putting right persons at right places, they added.
Meanwhile , the state government has appointed Kishore Jha, a senior MT cadre IPS officer to Officer on Special Duty (OSD) at Tripura Bhavan, New Delhi
Jha, who is now on leave, has been asked to join under the Chief Resident Commissioner, Tripura Bhavan, New Delhi as OSD. His task will be to take up state’s security related issues and other works with the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).
Jha, who had to leave the state following a sexual related controversy, had joined Addl DG, CRPF. Of late, the CRPF has released him saying that his service is no more required.
Sources said Jha was ready to join the state police but the government fearing ‘adverse impact’ declined to take him back and posted him as OSD, Tripura Bhavan, New Delhi.
