 Poverty hits the state: parents stressed to sell their children

AGARTALA, June 24 (TIWN): Existing committee of Poverty Banishment during the meets conducted in different districts and sub-divisions of the state where claims to implement several projects to eliminate poverty from the state, the parents or the family members from different interior parts including the capital strained with poverty sell their children or leave their offspring to any of the orphanages.

Recently in a meet which was presided over by President of the existing committee Ranjita Datta, representatives of different departments discussed about the several initiatives taken by the ruling Government to reduce the rate of poverty in the state.

During the meet, they discussed about the initiatives taken for plantation over 340 hector of land under MGNREGA scheme. Besides, the concern department will also provide Rs. 6,000 as a part of financial help for the flower cultivators. Also, for cultivation of spices over 80 hector of land, the concern department will provide financial help to the concern farmers.

Interestingly, despite several initiatives taken to eliminate poverty from the state, mother’s strained with poverty having no other option sell their children. Even, there are some parents who give away their children without any kind of demands but with a hope that the future of the children will be poverty free. There are some parents who think that the earning is not enough to take care of the child.

Even day before yesterday that is on June 22 one incidents of Ashram Tilla Village of Tepania Panchayat under Udaipur Sub-Division came in to notice, where a mother permitted an ice-cream vendor to adopt her baby without any demand in-front of seven other witnesses in the hospital. The lady said that she is bound to sell her infant after she found no other way to save her child rather to die under the burden of poverty.

At another incident, Rajit Tati (35), who is a daily wages labour by profession has been unable to contribute the required amount for his family and also does not have any alternative opportunity to get relief from their pathetic condition and sold his child in an exchange of Rs. 5000.
