KHOWAI, June 24 (TIWN): Tuesday night cross-border shooting has triggered huge panic among villagers along border area at India-Bangladesh border fencing area at Gumsing Basti, Champaknagar, under Khowai Sub-division. According to the sources it was reported that at around 11.15 PM Indian 83-Bn BSF suspected that some Bangladeshi smugglers were trying to infiltrate to India from Bangladesh by cutting down the wire fencing. Identifying that infiltrators were smugglers, immediately red alert was issued to all the Border Security Posts and BSF Jawans took control over the situation, successfully shot dead one Bangladeshi smuggler. Dead Bangladeshi infiltrator has not been identified yet, but BSF Jawans stepped up vigil on this part of the border. This firing lasted for at least 10 minutes across border by smugglers, which was returned by BSF Jawans. The place where the Bangladeshi had been killed by BSF Jawans has been identified as Srimangal Dist. The border area is now under strict observations by BSF Jawans, at the International Pillar bearing No. 1959/10-s.It was totally dark when the incident took place at night 11.15 pm, thus many informations are yet to be collected for follow-up investigations by authorities of India and Bangladesh.

However, the situation is now under control as BSF intensified tight security along international border.

Cross border infiltration deaths in some of the most inaccessible parts of the two countries are surprisingly increasing especially in states like Tripura,Assam which need to be addressed as this exposed the risks the lives of many innocent people living along border .

According to BSF, it is time to take a practical approach and to take the “fencing” seriously so that no smuggler can cut down  the fencing.

Border Guards Bangladesh, as a paramilitary force, is entrusted with the responsibility to defend the 4,427 km border of the country. But the present situation reveals something different and the continuous clashes within the border areas as is to never end.

On one hand, India and Bangladesh  PMs have recently flagged off the transport service, LBA agreements for better international relations, on the other hand such incidents create huge tensions, mistrust among security forces of India and Bangladesh.
