KHOWAI, June 12 (TIWN): For past 2 month the water storage and water reservoir system of Asharambari, Udnachora, Bonbazar, Chamubosti of Khowai are left in deplorable condition hampering the irrigation and agriculture of the villages.

Reportedly, Tulasikhar DWS along with MIFC has jointly set up the water storage facility for the villagers for developing the agricultural production of the village, but improper management has lead the water storage system to dullness.

Deficiency in water supply, whether atmospheric, surface or ground water the farmers are facing a hue and cry in the production of Agricultural products. Generally, due to lack of rain, it has hampered the eco-system and agriculture of the affected region.

Although DWS and MIFC has managed to provide the facility of small water reservoir for the farmers but lack of maintenance has disrupted the flow of water in the agricultural field. Prolonged droughts have caused cracked in the agricultural land resulting low productivity of agricultural products.

Talking to DWS SDO Athenu Dewan said that it will take more than one month to recover the drought condition of the villages of the agricultural field. He further said that DWS has no fund and MIFC releases the fund from their section but interestingly MIFC also don’t have fund to improve the condition of the farmers in the villages.

The farmers stated that their only source for irrigation is the rain water which is also not regular in the state. They also said that the amount of drought indicates that heavy rainfall for days will also not recover the poor condition of these farmers.
