AGARTALA, May 20 (TIWN): Manik Sarkar led Tripura’s CPI-M Govt displayed on Tuesday how to stoop to lowest level in terms of manners, hospitality and protocols. No Minister went to Airport to receive Hon. Governor Tathagata Roy, and Chief Minister Manik Sarkar arrived 10 minutes late after Governor arrived at Raj Bhavan. Roy arrived in Tripura on Tuesday, would assume office on wednesday as 16th Governor of Tripura. Tripura's ruling CPI-M recently threatened to launch a mass movement if newly appointed Governor Tathagata Roy crosses his constitutional limit. With the opposition political parties of the Left ruled state comprising of Congress, BJP and others welcomed Tathagata Roy, the ruling CPI-M State Secretary Bijan Dhar reacting sharply to the appointment said, “If the new governor crosses his constitutional limit, the CPI-M would launch a mass movement against him”. Besides, BJP state president Sudhindra Das Gupta on Tuesday night talking to TIWN rubbished the statement of CPI-M against Roy said, “The emerging popularity of the BJP here in the Left ruled state worrying the ruling CPI-M at large.” Das Gupta also said that Roy is not the first political leader who has been appointed as a Governor of Tripura, as earlier another Congress leader had assumed his office as a Governor of the state.

President Pranab Mukherjee on May 12 appointed 70-year-old Roy, a former president of the BJP's West Bengal unit Tathagata Roy, as the 16th governor of Tripura.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Manik Sarkar said he was not consulted by the central government about the appointment of the new governor.

CPI-M accused the BJP-led NDA government of making "unilateral" appointment of "known" political workers as Governor of states including Tripura - where the communist outfit is in power.

"We expect that the new governor will uphold the human and basic rights of the people in Tripura," BJP's Tripura unit president Sudhindra Dasgupta said.
