AGARTALA, May 19 (TIWN): Former President of BJP’s West Bengal Unit, Tathagata Roy appointed as the new Governor of Tripura inspected official guard of Honour on Tuesday at Agartala Raj Bhawan. Roy landed at Agartala airport at 2:55 PM. Governor Roy would take oath as the new Governor of Tripura at Raj Bhavan on tomorrow, May 20. State Chief Secretary Y P Singh along with other officials of the state administration and BJP leaders received Tathagata Roy at Agartala airport. Later a guard of honour was given to Roy at Raj Bhawan in presence of Chief Minister Manik Sarkar and his Cabinet ministers. Interestingly, no Cabinet Ministers were seen to receive Governor Tathagata Roy at airport. Arriving here in Tripura today Roy said, “I have a very good relation with the princely state Tripura.” Adding to that Roy said, “I feel proud to the Governor of Tripura".However, newly appointed Governor Tathagata Roy arrived in state amidst the ruling CPI-M expressed its anger over the unilateral appointment of the Governor. In a rare slip of protocol or on purpose to express his disapproval, multiple scam tainted Chief Minister Manik Sarkar arrived late at Raj Bhavan to receive Governor Tathagata Roy. Chief Minister arrived Raj Bhavan after the arrival of Governor, being seen as a snub to newly appointed Governor.

What makes the story interesting is that after Governor Roy has entered the Raj Bhawan,  CM Manik Sarkar was found not present, finally Chief Minister arrived when Governor was inspecting guard of honour.

Roy, a senior BJP leader from West Bengal had unsuccessfully contested from Kolkata Dakshin Lok Sabha constituency in 2014. Murmu, a BJP leader from Odisha, has been an active member of the party and contested many elections. She was an MLA from Rairangpur Assembly constituency in the year 2000.

President Pranab Mukherjee on Tuesday appointed six new governors for Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Tripura, Manipur and Jharkhand.
