Police apprehends 1500 bottles of foreign liquor

AGARTALA, May 3 (TIWN): Illegal importing of foreign liquor from Assam continues to practice unabashed in Tripura despite ban and constant checks. Police seized 1500 bottles of foreign liquor from different places in Kamalpur sub-division here on Saturday late night.

 In an anti-liquor drive, police of Kamalpur police station seized 1500 bottles of foreign liquor from different places in Kamalpur sub-division. Ahead of ADC election, the anti-liquor raids were carried out in six places of the sub-division.

According to police, during the raids, the maximum bottles of foreign liquor were recovered from the house of Sukanta Bhattacharjee, resident of Kalacheri village.

Acting on a tip-off Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kamalpur police station Debprasad Roy carried out the raids. The value of seized liquor has been estimated to be an amount of Rs. 1.5 lakh. However, police could not arrest the owner of the house from where the maximum bottles of foreign liquor were seized.

Everyday huge numbers of foreign liquor enters Tripura from Karimganj, Patharkandi area of Assam illegally. Seldom police are able to catch this but most of the time the smugglers escaped.
