It may be recalled that a middle aged woman namely Soma Mazumder was tied up against a pole and was beaten savagely in presence of panchayat chief and local CPI-M leaders and that too in broad daylight. But the police which is rumored to never act without the nod from the political masters was never more than a mute spectator at the initial stage. But the hatred of people was so incessant and outrageous that police was forced to register a case instead of section 354of IPC.
According to opposition, the police had not only has weakened the Soma’s case lodged by the accused CPI- M cadres against her that she had been indulged in prostitution in the area.Polcie has been made nincompoop in the golden era of Manik Sarkar and does what they are asked to, if the whispers in the society are to be believed. And ultimately the governor of Tripura took cognizance of this ghastly incident and asked police in no uncertain terms to book the culprits following the rules of the land.
