Agartala, January 8 (TIWN): As part of country-wide programme Demands Day, NF Railway Unit of Tripura State Hawkers’ Union affiliated by the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) today staged a demonstration with 5 point charter of demands at Agartala Railway Station.
In his speech, state president of CITU’s working committee- Pijush Nag said that the railway authority often harasses the hawkers inside the railway stations. The hawkers and workers should make this organization more influential to fulfill the demands through different protests, he added.
He further said if the BJP Government fails to initiate steps for addressing the 5-point charter of demands; the CITU would stage massive protest. Besides, he urged the hawkers and workers to intensify its struggle against the ‘disastrous’ economic policies of the BJP Government.
Addressing the demonstration, CITU’s central committee member and CITU’s divisional secretary of Dukli - Samar Chakraborty stated that the 7-month-old BJP government is introducing poor economic policies by effecting the poor people of the country. These economic policies are merely suitable for the ‘capitalists’, said Chakraborty.
“Even during the past seven months, the BJP government failed to offer a single instance of ‘Achhe Din’ to the people of the country. It indicates that the needy people of the country are likely to witness a disastrous situation in coming days”, Chakraborty added.
The CITU workers and hawkers demanded to complete the works for lying broad-gauge line from Dharmanagar to Sabroom quickly, business facilities has be given to the travelling hawkers of rail and hawkers of railway stations by issuing identity cards, all the advantages has to be provided to the contractual workers and rail hawkers under RSVY scheme, license has to be ensured by the Railway Ministry to the hawkers and vendors without any delay and to provide wages and facilities to the contractual labours in railway equal to the regular workers.
Besides, CITU’s state committee members- Srijan Deb, Prasanna Kumar Saha, NF Railway Unit secretary- Rameswar Debnath and assistant secretary Abhijit Rakshit participated in the demonstration.
