AGARTALA, May 23 (TIWN): Under Tripura BJP's much hyped Double Engine development for the past one week, villagers in Kailashahar's Chhantail gram panchayat are spending days without electricity. The area is located under Chandipur block of Kailasahar. Common people of Ward No. 1 of Chantail Gram Panchayat blocked the Kailasahar-Kumarghat road in Trimukhi area of ??Chantail village around 10:30 am on Monday in protest of severe shortage of drinking water in the area due to lack of electricity for the last one week.

Pump machines are shut down in the area as the electricity is not available for last 7 days. The blockaders also said that drinking water was not being supplied to the area by the DWS department. The villagers are forced to drink the water of Manu river. While talking to media one villager alleged that many children of the village fall sick after drinking unhygienic water from the river.

There are several chicken farms in the village. He also said that about one thousand chicken died in the village due to lack of electricity. Although the villagers have informed the local panchayat about this several times but no action is taken by the Panchayat yet.

After receiving the news of road blockade, a large number of police and TSR of Kailasahar police station rushed to the spot. About two and a half hours after the blockade, the DCM of Kailasahar sub-divisional office visited the blockade site and informed that power supply would be restored by tonight and drinking water would be provided to the area by vehicles from DWS department. After receiving this assurance from DCM, the blockaders lifted the blockade.
