AGARTALA, Oct 15 (TIWN): Skyrocketing prices of food items were observed since the morning in Agartala non-veg markets centering Bijoya Dashami. Amid high rates of each item, there was no pause in the selling and business as after all it's Bioya Dasami, another day dedicated for Bengali foodies after Pohela Boishakh. Chicken is sold at Rs. 250, whereas mutton is Rs. 1,000. The Hilsa Fish rate begins from Rs. 1000/ to 1500/- and other big fishes are also around Rs. 600 to Rs. 700. This is the day when 99 % Bengalis aim to satisfy their gluttony with delicious food items and taking the opportunity, the sellers also fix a heavy rate as per their wishes. From Gol Bazar to Math Chowmuhani, Battala, the prices are more or less the same. TIWN reported yesterday, how since Navami evening markets gathered with buyers.

After 3 days of Vegetable foods on Saptami, Ashtami and Nabmi public have rushed to meat / fish markets on the occasion of Dasami. At Agartala's Battala meat market the price went high on the occasion of Dasami, whereas across the state the situation of meat markets were more or less the same.

As Dasami is known as ‘Bengali’s food day’ just like Pohela Baishak, demand was also high for sweets across the towns. 

Understanding the festival spirit of sharing and bonding, people from all walks of life partook in sumptuous community feasts at marquees and visited friends and relatives on Saturday celebrating Vijayadashami- the fourth and penultimate day of Durga Puja in Tripura, Bengal.

Men, mostly donning the festive attire of kurta and pyjama, and women, resplendent in bright saris, greeted friends, relatives and other acquaintances, clicked selfies and idled away time with banter and fun, soaking in the infectious carnival spirit.

As per Hindu mythology, Goddess Durga killed Chando and Mundo -- two 'asuras' (demons) at the confluence (Sandhi) of the two days. The Goddess was worshipped as the undefeated - and offered her favourite food items.

Many looked desperate, trying to visit as many community puja marquees as possible on Navami night, with the festival slated to come to an end on Saturday with the immersion of the idols on Vijaya Dashami.

According to Bengali tradition, Durga Puja begins with the symbolic arrival of Goddess Durga on Earth along with her sons Kartik and Ganesha and daughters Saraswati and Laxmi on Sashthi and ends on Dashami, celebrated across the country as Dussehra.

Traditionally, idols of Goddess Durga depict her as slaying demon Mahishasur. She is shown astride a lion and wielding an array of weapons in her 10 arms.

With the Bijoya Dasami celebration, four days of celebration ends today and people will join their offices / works/ business from tomorrow.
