AGARTALA, July 26 (TIWN): A criminal activity has been conducted by a club in Agartala Krishnanagar and the programme was attended by BJP MLA Surajit Dutta himself by promoting "dowry" system. Though the club wanted to help a poor family, they did a blunder by promoting dowry.

A fridge was given by the club to a daughter's mother to give to her son in law in marriage.

However, the Club member told initially that the groom party did not seek any dowry but the mother wanted to give it. However, it is an open secret that such dialogues do not have connection with reality.

Any sort of expensive gift's display in marriage is considered dowry. 

At the same time, if it is believed that the groom party did not seek anything in marriage then also such activities give a message to the society that it is the bride's parent's responsibility to give expensive gifts even if the groom does not seek anything. 

The Bride's mother said, "I will get a Mukti (get rid of) by giving my daughter's marriage". 

Survey says, dowry is now a custom in some communities instead of demand.
