National Civil Defense and Home Guards Day observed

Agartala, Dec 6 (TIWN): Along with the other states of the country, the 52nd National Civil Defense and Home Guards Day was celebrated in Agartala with full dignity and enthusiasm on Saturday. As part of the observance of the day, the main function was held at the AD Nagar police line (Reserve ground), here today.

In a statement, Director of Civil Defense Department and DM, West district- Abhiskek Singh appealed to every citizen for involving themselves to the serve the nation in case of natural disaster or war movements becoming Civil Defense member and to avail training for the same.

With an aim to manage any kind of disaster in different localities, the department has motivated and involved altogether 656 citizens including students, youths, teachers and others in last three years by conducting 16 training camps. The department also aimed to train more 300 youths by conducting different training camps by 2015.

At present the activities of Civil Defense Department is limited in the West Tripura district merely. To extend the service across the state, the state government has sent a proposal to the Central government in a recent past. Besides, a Civil Defense training centre is under construction by the Central project funds at East Gokulnagar under Bishalghar sub division.

During the programme, Minister Sahid Chowdhury, Director General of Police (DGP), In-charge K. Nagraj, Inspector General of Police (Home Guard)- Nepal Das and other officials were remained present and delivered their essential speeches.  

During the observance of 52nd National Civil Defense and Home Guards Day, a vast number of volunteers and staffs have performed parade.
