AGARTALA, April 30 (TIWN): In a memorandum submitted to the Chief Secretary of Tripura, All India Kishan Sabha (AIKS) Secretary Narayan Kar, Tripura Rajya Upajati Ganamukti Parishad (GMP) President Jitendra Choudhury, Tripura Rajya Khet Mazdoor Union (TRKMU) President Bhanulal Saha have demanded sufficient supplies of ration, financial helps to the distress people in deep rural areas along with demand of sending back the stranded migrants of other states. In the letter submitted to the Chief Secretary, it has been said, whereas the positive outcome of the COVID19 management in Tripura successfully overcame the disease, but at the same time daily workers are suffering a lot. The economic plight of daily workers and farming community has been a matter of concern with the lockdown period.
“The TTA-ADC where one third of the entire population mostly tribals lives are reeling under immense crisis of food and other commodities. The Jhumias could not sow seeds in their Jhum as Jhuming is completely a timebound activity which shall have a far reaching consequences. Similarly the small rubber growers are not in position to harvest and sell their latex which is now an alternative livelihood of thousands of families in rural Tripura”, the letter said to Chief Secretary.
It was also described how the border lined areas people are not allowed to move and sell their products in markets. With all these, the daily workers are totally in jobless, workless conditions.
Thus, the demands raised by AIKS, GMP, KMU are :
1) To supply sufficient free food, rations. Per head 7 kg of commodities or 35 kg per family for 3 months,
2) To conduct an urgent registration for them, those who do not have ration cards,
3) Rs. 7,500 per month for 3 months at least to the families,
4) Stranded migrants must be served with sufficient food, lodging, medical cares,
5) To arrange vehicles for the stranded people to send back their homes,
6) At least 10 days of MGNREGA, TUEP works by ensuring wages to be paid by 7 days,
7) Help the border lines, Jhumia in agriculture, sowing seeds and also harvesting along with proceeding in markets,
8) The farmers should be provided with sufficient agricultural materials,
9) EMI from all kinds of loans from banks may be halted for 3 months and interest premium for this period may be waived,
10) Proper distribution, supply of drinking water, sanitation, power connectivity etc,
11) All medical persons engaged for treatment of Coronavirus must be provided with N95 masks, standard PPE etc along with random testing conduction across Districts.
