AGARTALA, July 27 (TIWN): Demanding compensation to the post poll violence victims of Lok Sabha Election, Tripura Congress has filed a case in the Supreme Court of India against the Election Commission. Logic is, responsibility of providing security and ensure safety of the people go to the Commission in poll-season. As Tripura people were not provided with security and bloodshed hit the post election season, so EC must compensate the people whose houses were burnt, who were hospitalized. On yesterday, Pradyot Deb Barman announced that the case was registered in Supreme Court with SC Diary No. 24953-2019 PRADYOT DEB BURMAN Vs. ELECTION COMMISSION OF INDIA. Eminent lawyers Abhishek Manu Singhvi and Salman Khurshid have represented the case on behalf of Pradyot Deb Barman.Congress moved in Supreme Court demanding compensation for each victim belong to Congress. On yesterday, the case was registered.
On the background of the case filing, Congress State President Pradyot Manikya said, in 1993 Advocate Pijush Biswas also filed a similar case on behalf of victims in the High Court and according to its judgement the Govt is bound to compensate the victims.
Congress has filed the case against Election Commission and now it will be decided whether EC or State Govt will pay the compensation.
“It is duty of the administration to provide security to the people. If they can’t provide security to the citizens, then they have to compensate them. As they could not secure people, according to their duty norms, thus it is now their responsibility to compensate by them”, Pradyot Manikya said.
Tripura’s post poll violence damaged BJP Govt’s image in the long run and sources informed the planwise violence was done by none other than cheated winner MP Pratima Bhowmik with help of her criminal leaders. Earlier, CPI-M alleged, Pratima Bhowmik imported goons from other states to attack people. Later, with CM Biplab Deb’s strict warning against hooligans the situations came in control.
Tripura post poll violence has hit the peace since the result of Lok Sabha Election was declared. The GB hospital’s space was turning smaller because of larger section of people are admitted there after beaten by ruling party cadres, who were victimized in post poll violence.
Over hundreds of people are hospitalized in critical situation. Thousands of property losses are being reported across the state.
