AGARTALA, July 25 (TIWN): In a major development for the Power Dept of Tripura, which is facing public rage due to massive load-shedding problems in the state, The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has sanctioned a Rs 1,925 crore project for upgradation of power generation. Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Barman has announced this to media. The amount was recently sanctioned to the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) after the state government had sought the ADB's assistance. Govt of Tripura headed by Chief Minister Biplab Deb managed two sets of loans from ADB. TIWN published footage on yesterday, how Govt hospitals are suffering due to power cut problems in Tripura along with other offices including banking service.
One is for the power dept whereas another is Rs. 1650 Crores were approved for infrastructure development such as piped water supply, underground drainage, underground sewage or scientific septage management, roads with pavement etc in seven district Headquarter towns other than Agartala i.e. Khowai, Ambassa, Dharmnagar, Kailashahar, Udaipur, Bishramganj, Belonia.
Asian Development Bank will provide Rs. 1650 Cr( $235 million) out of which 80% is grant in aid and the State will have to repay back only 20% loan in due course of time. However, now Power dept has to take this opportunity to prove the Govt can truly transform the state into a model state bringing a revolution in power management.
Jishnu Dev Barman while detailing the utilization of the funds said, “The project has been sanctioned for upgrading capacity of 63 MW Rokhia Project to 120 MW at an estimated cost of Rs 699.80 crore and modernising Gumti Hydro Electric Project at an estimated cost of Rs 1225.88 crore”.
Rs 12.7 crore for overhaul of the 49.15 km-long Ambassa-Gandacherra power transmission line has also been sanctioned.
Dept’s Minister Jishnu Dev Barman recently in a media interview has slammed the previous CPI-M Govt for that saying, it’s responsible for poor infrastructure of the dept bound the present BJP Govt to receive loan of 1200 crores from Asian Development Bank (ADB).
