AGARTALA, June 26 (TIWN): On the occasion of “International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking”, Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Deb said on Wednesday that unlicensed drug-dealings and consuming trends are more dangerous than insurgency problems.

CM said that recently yaba tablets’ smuggling via Sonamura border have concerned the state.

Appreciating Tripura police’s continuous seizes of drugs across the state, Deb said that earlier he used to call police officers after successful raids to motivate them, whereas today without any appreciation and guidelines police are doing their jobs without any pressure.

“It took 3 months for me to overcome the drug-nexus with high-layers which gripped the administration under the previous Govt, but today when police take action, no drug mafia dares to raise voice”, Deb said.

Taking a dig at the previous CPI-M Govt, Biplab Deb said that the head of the state on that time was not stable and always frustrations gripped him which effected his people and frustration led youths to be injected in drugs.

CM said that in a recent survey it has revealed that out of 800 people, 79 people in Tripura are found HIV positive and mostly it’s in the Damchara like area (Mizoram Border). He said, it happens due to same injection syringes are used by multiple youths.

The programme was conducted at Rabindra Sata Barshiki Bhawan on the occasion of of  International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking day.

The International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking is a United Nations International Day against drug abuse and the illegal drug trade. It is observed annually on 26 June, since 1989. The observance was instituted by General Assembly Resolution 42/112 of 7 December 1987.
