Chandrapur incident: Partha in jail custody, next hearing on October 20

Agartala, Oct 18 (TIWN): Partha Majumder, who was arrested in connection with Chandrapur barbaric incident on October 14, has confessed about his involvement. He is in jail custody now. According to the police sources, Partha informed to police about the actual faces and details behind the incident during the 2 days police remand. The next hearing for the case is likely to be held on October 20.

On being asked about the latest development, police are collecting the evidences and trying to assemble the name of witnesses regarding this incident, said a police official on Saturday from East Agartala police station. The investigation for Chandrapur incident is in progress, he said.

Mentionable, the local protesters and witnesses are allegedly receiving repeated threats from the FIR named persons. As a result resentment is brewing among the residents of Tata Kalibari area of Chandrapur.

Recently, the Tripura Governor had asked the police authority to ensure the security of victim and witnesses so that they can provide their statements before the court without any fear.

On the other hand, the Court has directed rest 17 FIR named persons to appear before the court on October 20. Under the immense pressure, created by public, media and different political organizations, the police had added the non-bailable sections 354(B) for outrage of modesty, 394 for robbery and 109 abetment of Indian Penal Code (IPC) against the 18 FIR named accused persons.

According the sources inside court, the CJM has recorded the statement of the victim- Soma Majumder (Debnath) on October 13. While giving her statement, Soma explained the incident took place on the eve of Laxmi puja. The police have submitted the Case Diary (CD) before the CJM on the same day.

Several allegations have been raised against the police for their role as mute spectators from the starting. A section of people have alleged that the police not giving importance to this case right from the beginning.

It is to be mentioned here; Soma was brutally tortured publicly on the eve of Laxmi puja. Later, she had lodged FIR against 18 accused persons with the East Agartala police station.
